“Fitness Boot Camps Are Dangerous” – How To Choose A Fitness Bootcamp Part 1
In Singapore, Fitness Boot Camps becoming more and more popular. One reason for this is that fitness Bootcamps usually cost much less than one-on-one personal training. There is also a lot of community and social support which 1 to 1 personal training lacks. Fitness Boot Camps are a good way to get a proper workout while still providing expert coaching and supervision.
Unfortunately, the quality of the program, the environment, the instruction, and the coaching can vary greatly for fitness bootcamps in Singapore. This can be a HUGE problem for potential bootcamp clients looking for the best vaule for their time and money.
There is a lot of money to be made in the fitness, health and beauty market in Singapore so many “fitness instructors” start fitness bootcamps to make a quick buck. However, because of the large variety of experience, fitness level and injury history present in large group training like bootcamps, there can be a problem.
These instructors may or may not have any of the skills or experience to design custom workouts for the wide variety of fitness levels typical in large group training.
But not to worry, at our private fitness gym in Singapore, the Genesis Performance Center we serve hundreds of clients per year including many in our bootcamp. So we would like to help you with some tips about how to choose the right fitness boot camp for you.

The Top 10 Tips For Boot Camp Safety And Choosing A Fitness Bootcamp (no. 5-10 covered in a later post)
1.) The Instructor(s) Must Be experienced coaches who have years of exercise and coaching experience. Unfortunately there are many online “fitness” certifications where anybody can get “certified” without any experience and little study. In Singapore there are some basic exercise courses and fitness instructor courses that ANYBODY could pass with just a weekend’s worth of reading the textbook. It is your health that you are trusting these instructors with. You should choose those who are constantly upgrading themselves so that they can help you get better results.
2.) The Instructor(s) Must Look Like They Take Their Own Advice. Simply put a fitness instructor must look fit! I’m sure you have seen instructors wearing T-shirts with “fitness instructor” printed on the back, but this same person wears a big belly on the front! As a fitness professional it is kind of embarrassing to the fitness industry. After all, who wants to take advice from someone who is in worse shape than they are!
3.) The Instructor(s) Must Know How To Customize Exercises For Your Fitness Level. Every exercise has the appropriate regression and progression based on your current fitness level. Overweight, de-conditioned beginners SHOULD NOT perform the exact same exercises as people who have been training for the last 10 years consistently. If you tell your trainer “I can’t do this because it hurts” he or she must be able to come up with an alternative that suits you. If they can’t do it – then they either don’t know, or don’t care enough.
4.) The Instructor(s) Must Provide A Personal Touch. A good trainer can both instruct a group, as well as give enough personal attention to members when they have questions about injury, nutrition or other health related issues related to getting the best possible results from their fitness bootcamp.
